Decline in industrial production in February

Industrial production declined in February 2011 compared to the previous month, according to the results of the monthly business survey in industry conducted by Bank Al-Maghrib.
56% of CEOs surveyed found that industrial production has declined in activity, against 34% reporting a stagnation and a 20% increase, a negative balance of 36%, says the survey, noting that for the next three months, manufacturers expect improvement in business with a balance of opinion of 36%.
Activity fell in all industries, except textiles and leather where it has stagnated, is the survey of a representative sample of 400 companies operating in the domestic industrial sector.
In the short term, companies of all industries provide a development activity, but the balances of opinion were the highest recorded level of mechanical and metallurgical industries and those electrical and electronic equipment.
Overall sales have generally been trending up in conjunction with the improvement of local and foreign sales, the source added.
For the next three months, manufacturers expect continued sales increases in both local and those abroad.
Overall sales rose in the chemicals and related industries and those electrical and electronic equipment. However, they have stagnated in the textile and leather and have declined in other industries, says the survey.
In the short term, professionals expect better sales but to different degrees, depending on the branch.
Furthermore, new orders rose during February, in association with improvement of controls in electrical and electronic industries and in chemicals and related industries.
The order book is considered below normal levels, according to business leaders, while inventories of finished goods are considered above normal.
The survey results indicate a rise in prices of finished goods from one month to another, with an opinion balance of 42%. For the next three months, manufacturers expect further price increases with a balance of 28%.
